Sir Bryan Cartledge
Sir Bryan Cartledge was Principal at Linacre
from 1988 to 1996. He came from a diplomaƟc
background as Ambassador to Hungary and the
old USSR. As is tradiƟon, before handing over to

During his Ɵme as Principal, the Abraham
Building was conceived, designed, built and paid
for. This great achievement was celebrated in
June 1995 with Sir Edward and Lady Abraham
and the Chancellor, Lord Jenkins of Hillhead.
Prince Michael of Kent visited Linacre in
September 1995 aŌer a morning spent at the
PiƩs Rivers Museum with Director, Dr Schuyler
Jones and Curator, Professor Howard Morphy.
